Dubai Summer Watering Schedule: Build, Check and Adjust Each Zone

A Dubai summer watering schedule should be built zone by zone and reviewed in the garden; there is no universal runtime for every villa, pot or lawn. Schedule within DEWA's recommended window, observe water at the root zone, and change duration or frequency only after checking emitters, soil and runoff.

Build a schedule sheet

For each zone, record the plant group, soil or container type, sun and wind exposure, delivery method, start time, duration and days of operation. Add two observation columns: what the soil was like before the run and what it was like after water had moved into the root area.

Use local timing guidance

DEWA advises watering before 8 am or after 6 pm, checking sprinkler valves for leaks, adjusting automatic timers according to seasonal demand and weather, and avoiding fine mist. These are useful boundaries, but they are not a fixed schedule. Current utility, municipality and community requirements may also apply, so check them for the specific property.

Review the schedule in a fixed order

  1. Confirm the tap and timer inlet remain dry while pressurised.
  2. Watch the first and last emitters in each zone.
  3. Correct blockages, kinks, overspray or poor distribution.
  4. Inspect representative soil at root depth.
  5. Check for runoff, deep pooling or water on paving.
  6. Change one setting for the affected zone.
  7. Record why the change was made and inspect the next cycle.

Review again after material changes in weather, planting, shade, emitters or hose layout. An old summer programme should not continue unchanged simply because it remains saved in the app.

Separate schedule faults from hardware faults

A dry area does not automatically need more minutes. Weak water at the line end can point to flow, a kink or blocked emitters. A wet patch near the tap can point to a washer or connector. A missed command can point to gateway power or connectivity. Diagnose the path before editing the calendar.

Is a four-zone timer useful?

The Johgee 4-zone timer may suit a villa where one tested tap serves several groups with different schedule needs. It is less useful for one simple line, and it cannot determine plant demand, correct poor emitters or guarantee an outcome. Do not assume all four outlets should run simultaneously; test and schedule them separately.

What is the first change when a zone is too dry?

First check whether water reaches the full zone evenly. Extend or repeat watering only after ruling out a fitting, flow or emitter problem.
